The Buried Life inspires UWO

Sports Photography: Sports has always been a thing in my family; watching them at least. I love being able to take a moment in a game and freeze it. That moment is gone in the blink of an eye, but I get to capture it and make it last forever. I got my “big break” in sports while I attended UWO. The UWO Men’s Club Hockey team was looking for a new photographer, they gave me a chance and I ended up working with them for about five seasons! While attending UWO I worked for their school newspaper. This allowed me access to other sporting events; hockey, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc. Sports photography has a special place in my heart. Working for the hockey team showed me that not everyone had the opportunity to get their photos taken during their games. The guys would come up to me after a game so excited and ask to see if I got that shot of their goal or that big hit that got them a penalty. Seeing their excitement and happiness made me fall in love with sports photography.

Wedding Photography: I have been working weddings since 2016. I worked for a company in Oshkosh that specializes in wedding photography, Trident Productions. Before I started working there, I had only done one wedding. I was so nervous, but my boss showed me the ropes and assured me that I would do great! I went on to grow my portfolio and help Trident Productions earn four awards from The Knot and Wedding Wire! I am ion the process of rebuilding my wedding portfolio for my own company, until then, enjoy my past work. The feeling I get shooting weddings is very similar to when I shoot sports. With a wedding, I am capturing one of the biggest day in two people’s lives. Their day goes so fast and I love being able to stop those moments and allow them to relive that day over and over!

Family/Senior Photography:

For Chelsea, photography and writing go hand in hand. She loves being able to capture a decisive moment. She wanted to write about that moment in her own words, so she turned to journalism. In her images she tells a story of her subject in a specific moment. Adding writing to the image helps evolve that story. Chelsea wants her viewers to see how her session with her subject went. She does this by taking photos and writing about the subject. She did not want someone else to write about the person she was photographing. She was with the subject so why not write about her experience and see if she can get the same emotion in writing as she does within her images.

Gritty • Vibrant • Smooth

In Chelsea’s images and videos, she tries to bring out raw emotion. She wants her subjects to be real, not posed. Although in some cases, like portraits, they are posed. Chelsea’s approach is to show athletes and sports in a different perspective than the norm. Her images differ from other sports photographers because she changes angles and she moves with her subjects. Changing her angles also gives her subjects empowerment. All Chelsea wants to do is capture her subjects personality. She does this with the techniques listed above.
